How the whale shark swim works
You head out by boat to the sanctuary, the whale shark is located, and you get into the water. The slots prevent overcrowding, protect the species, and regulate the boats. Only a limited number can be in the area, for 2 to 3 hours, and the authorities see each boat's position in real time.
The time is confirmed one day before, depending on the area and how many whale sharks are active. That is why a fixed time cannot be promised far in advance. The slots are authorized by the federal government, with CONANP, SEMARNAT and the Government of the State of Baja California Sur.
The slots in a day are 7:00, 10:00, 12:00, and 14:00. Which one you get is confirmed one day before, along with the date.
